Ti-Tek Titanium Specialists

Why is titanium used in offshore applications?

Ti-Tek are proud to stock raw titanium and titanium alloys in a wide range of grades and forms – suiting the diverse requirements of various industries, including the oil and gas industry.

About titanium

Titanium is a chemical element with the atomic symbol ‘Ti’ and atomic number 22. It’s used widely across the oil industry for production, underwater applications, engineering and refining.

When compared to steel, titanium is 45% lighter but just as strong. Grades 1 to 4 are titanium in its purest form, where grades 5 to 12 are alloys. Titanium can be alloyed with other elements, including iron, aluminium, vanadium and molybdenum, to provide exceedingly high strength.

Offshore uses for titanium

Titanium is used in the marine industry for ocean engineering. The oil and gas industry uses titanium bars, rods, sheets and bolts for heat exchangers and the lining of high-pressure vessels. A titanium bar is often used in place of a stainless steel bar.

Why titanium is used for offshore applications:

  1. Safety

Whether it be a titanium rod, bar or sheet, all our products are manufactured to the highest standard. As an ISO 9001:2015 certified company, we provide quality stock for offshore industries, which as a result, ensures plant safety.

  1. Corrosion resistance

In this industry, equipment is subject to huge stresses and corrosion. Using titanium rods can prevent rust and deterioration that frequently occur during processes such as drilling, production, processing, storage and transportation.

Grade 7 titanium is ideal for reducing and oxidising environments in the chemical industry, whilst grade 9 is used for subsea applications.

  1. Competitive prices

All our products are compliant with industry standards and priced competitively to guarantee great value. At Ti-Tek, we provide metal to suit the budget requirements of all customers, so you needn’t worry about finding high-quality titanium, for an affordable price.
